What to see and do in Hauganes

If you’re looking for a place that is buzzing with noise, crowded with people and over-the-top range of activities – then Hauganes might not be the place for you.

The culture in Hauganes probably exists in a sense that you haven’t experienced before. It’s a lifestyle that celebrates and values time. You’re never late for anything and time is a precious gift, not for spending or wasting.

Nature – how it affects, controls and nurtures us – is a big part of the lifestyle in Hauganes. And you can take part too! The whales just across our backyard have a huge impact on our lives, fishing has nurtured us for ages, the icelandic horse is our soulmate, Hiking around the area gives you time to think about the place, your self, the present and the past. The new Baccalá bar is a great place to hang out and chat with the locals and enjoy quality fish.

We’re happy to say we’re only 20 min drive from Akureyri, an hours drive to the lovely and magical Mývatn area in the east, An hour from Skagafjörður in the west and approx. 40 min from Siglufjörður in the north.

Hauganes is clearly in the heart of North Iceland.
